PHOENIX (AP) — Amare Stoudemire will undergo diagnostic surgery on his left knee to determine what is causing soreness that has bothered the Phoenix Suns All-Star in recent months.
Stoudemire, who signed a five-year, $73 million contract extension a week ago, sat out the final two days of training camp in Tucson because of the injury to the knee's articulate cartilage. If no serious damage is detected, Stoudemire probably will be out three to four weeks, coach Mike D'Antoni told The Associated Press.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentine doubles specialist Mariano Hood acknowledges testing positive for a banned drug at the French Open.
Hood has been told the tests showed the substance used was finasteride. According to media reports, Hood had been taking the substance for nine years in pill form to prevent hair loss.
Hood's positive result was reported by the French sports daily L'Equipe on Wednesday, the same day it said his compatriot, Mariano Puerta, tested positive for the stimulant etilefrine after reaching the French Open men's singles final in June. Puerta has denied the report.
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — A top Lithuanian tennis player died after a pickup truck crashed into him and another Lynn University student as they pushed a car.
Aivaras Balzekas, a member of the Lithuanian national team, died Sunday night at Delray Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Marlene Wotell said. One of his legs was amputated at the hospital, school spokeswoman Michele Morris said.
The 23-year-old Balzekas and Hakki Yavuz, 21, from Turkey, were pushing a car early Saturday when a pickup driven by David Walsh, 24, of Boca Raton, plowed into them, police said. No charges have been filed.
