Emma Horne, 26, of Moffat, will spend £2,500 of her £250,000 Thunderball jackpot win on essential hip replacement surgery for her white Alsatian Sysco.

"My first thought was that we'd now be able to get Sysco the operation he needs to be more active," said Ms Horne as she recalled the moment she realised she had scooped the quarter of a million pounds.

The part-time cleaner at Moffat Academy and Annandale Hotel added: "I checked my regular numbers on Teletext when I got out of the bath on Saturday night.

Ms Horne, who has been playing the National Lottery regularly for several years, bought the winning ticket at AM Grieve Newsagent, High Street, Moffat.
