A STAR-STUDDED charity ball organised by a Leeds cancer patient has raised a massive £60,000. Pamela Cavaliere from Adel is battling cancer of the oesophagus.
They enlisted support from other stars including Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard, for the black-tie event at Bradford City Football Club.
Guests also enjoyed a silent auction, raffle, and music from Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain Dingle in the soap and is a strong supporter of research into oesophageal cancer.
"Chris Chittell was fantastic as an auctioneer and Jeff Hordley was a brilliant DJ. There were 600 people there and we have raised £60,000 so far.
The 43-year-old paid special thanks to her organising committee – Gill Blair, Dianne Kitching, Janine Heptonstall, Sally Smallman and Jo Underhill – who she said had worked incredibly hard, and other helpers on the night.
She underwent four months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy but it was not successful and last year she had surgery to remove her oesophagus and part of her stomach.
It is more common in men than woman and is on the rise, with more cases in the Far East and Central Asia which could be linked to diet or environment.
l Organisers of the ball want to hear from the person who won the bidding for Lot 13, swimming with sharks. Contact Pam through the website www.celebratelifewithus.co.uk.
