KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs had not decided Tuesday whether the injury to starting quarterback Trent Green would result in former CFL star Casey Printers being promoted to the NFL club's active roster.

Green was released from hospital Tuesday, two days after being admitted following being hit in the head by Cincinnati defensive end Robert Geathers during the Bengals 23-10 victory over the Chiefs.

Backup Damon Huard, a 10-year NFL veteran, will start for the Chiefs on Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Rookie Brodie Croyle will back up Huard, leaving a spot on the roster for a No. 3 quarterback.

But when asked if Printers, the CFL's outstanding player in 2004, would come off the Chiefs' practice roster to fill that spot, head coach Herm Edwards was very non-committal.

Printers, 25, signed with the Chiefs as a free agent Jan. 13. He spent three seasons with the CFL's B.C. Lions, earning the CFL's outstanding player award in 2004 when he threw for 5,088 yards and 35 touchdowns after replacing injured incumbent Dave Dickenson.

However, Printers suffered a shoulder injury in the West Division final that year and Dickenson, having recovered from knee surgery, led the Lions to a 27-24 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Dickenson went on to start and play the entire Grey Cup game versus the Toronto Argonauts, which the Argos won 27-19 in Ottawa.

After finishing 131-of-216 passing for 1,631 yards and nine touchdowns, Printers turned down a three-year, $1.2-million offer from B.C. to sign a three-year, $1.03-million deal US with the Chiefs.
