Day surgery operations double HOSPITAL chiefs have more than doubled the number of day surgery operations in the last four years. Bosses who run the Conquest and Eastbourne DGH congratulated themselves and the front-line staff after revealing their Trust was one of the top 10 in the country to make the achievement.
Trust chairman John Lewis said more than 80 per cent of work was now done as day surgery with patients being discharged from hospital within 24 hours.
A range of procedures are now carried out as day cases across East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust such as complex hand surgery, cataracts, hip replacements, tonsillectomies and some ear nose and throat surgery.
Only five operations were cancelled last month by the hospital Trust. Almost all patients coming through the doors of both A&E departments were also seen with the required four-hour wait last month.
