The former sixth-round pick spent two seasons with Cleveland--one on the physically-unable-to-perform list--and last season on the Bears' practice squad.

At 6 feet 3 inches and 303 pounds, he showed his instincts with nine tackles in the exhibition opener against San Francisco. He then flashed some athleticism with an interception off a deflection Thursday night in Cleveland.

"I'm not content with everything I've done," Garay said. "You can always get better. But I'm happy with how I've played. I have a lot of potential."

The Bears placed safety Brandon McGowan on the physically-unable-to-perform list as he continues to rehabilitate from off-season knee surgery. McGowan, the only undrafted rookie to make last season's roster, came on strong before tearing a right knee ligament in the season finale.

Like McGowan, Worrell in 2003 was the only undrafted rookie to make the Bears. He spent last season on injured reserve after tearing his labrum in an exhibition game.

Receiver Alex Bannister never got a chance to show special teams skills that once landed him in the Pro Bowl with Seattle. His hamstring injury made him a cut.
