Clemson linebacker Antonio Clay was back on campus Friday after the death of his sister and was expected to start when the Tigers open against Florida Atlantic this weekend.
Clay's sister, 22-year-old Yoshanda Sanders, was killed in car accident this week. Sanders' car flipped while making a turn near the family's home in Jeffersonville, Ga., according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Clay left the team Wednesday to be with his family. Clemson coach Tommy Bowden left it up to the sophomore whether he would return for the game or not.
Clay had been battling senior Tramaine Billie throughout training camp for a linebacker spot. However, Clay won the job when Billie broke his foot during drills. Billie had surgery and is expected to miss up to eight weeks.
