Marshall is scheduled to start today against San Francisco's Matt Cain. He was on the DL with a strained right oblique and has not pitched since July 23. In Marshall's 19 starts, he has a 5-8 record with a 4.98 ERA.
Miller has been on the disabled list all season after having surgery on his right shoulder. In eight rehabilitation starts in the minor leagues, he has posted a 2-0 record with a 3.60 ERA.
We hardly knew you: The Phil Nevin era did not last long for the Cubs. With Derrek Lee back in the lineup, Nevin was dealt to the Minnesota Twins along with cash late Thursday night and thus will be eligible for the playoffs if the Twins qualify. In exchange, the Cubs will receive a player to be named.
"However long you have been playing you hope to get into a situation where you get a chance to play into October," Nevin said Friday. "I definitely have that now."
Nevin, 35, came to the Cubs on May 31 from Texas in exchange for Jerry Hariston Jr. During his time with the Cubs, he hit .274 with 12 homers and 33 RBIs over 67 games.
"There are great people here," Nevin said. "It's fun being part of a great, rich tradition. Playing in front of these fans was something I'll never forget."
Prior update: Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said it is doubtful Mark Prior will pitch again this season, but he said he is hopeful Prior will regain the form from 2003 when he went 18-6.
